My second novel has been released!  Those are  words that I never expected to write.   Anyway... Soul Hostage is
the  story of two small-time criminal that take an old man hostage during a  robbery.  The first impression of the old
man as a feeble drunk certainly proves to be wrong as the captors soon find their world turned upside down.  Thanks
to Merry Widow for offering this comment:   The plot twists are enthralling and numerous. One can't help but want to read
more! I am unsure what genre to attribute this marvelous work. It is definitely a thriller filled with suspense, but it also
has horror components. His works   are evocative of Stephen King, with overtones of H.P. Lovecraft and a sprinkling
of Steinbeck.
Besides being an incredible ego booster, the comment points out what might be a problem with the novel; it
does not fit neatly into one genre or style.
The question:  When choosing a book to read, are you more attracted to books that are easily placed within a genre and so let you know precisely what to expect, or would you rather have a book that surprises you?

Think the devil is always easy to recognize?

You are wrong. Evil comes in all shapes and sizes.

Thomas and Joey have known a great deal of trouble in their lives. Robbery, assault, burglary, and other dark deeds have marked their time together. Through it all, they have been able to count on each another.

But everything starts to change when during a less-than-successful robbery they meet Louis Stoaffer and enter the paranormal world of the occult. After taking him hostage, the roles change as the old man turns the tables on his captors with the promise of a big score.

Stoaffer spins an engaging tale in which betrayal and downfall replace his previous comfortable life with a prison cell. For assisting the old man in getting his revenge upon a scheming wife and treacherous business partner, Thomas and Joey will be rewarded with the means of making their dreams come true.

Always up for any action, Joey readily agrees to Stoaffer's plan. Thomas, on the other hand, is not so certain about trusting the strange old guy. Eventually, just as he has numerous times in the past, Thomas gives in to Joey's pressure and agrees to take part in the scheme.

However, as the trio travels south to carry out Stoaffer's plan, the promised slice of heaven goes south as well. Thomas learns that his instincts were correct, and nothing is as simple as it first appeared. Dreams become nightmares, and the only promise remaining is that of souls facing hell and eternal damnation.

The final question is how far Thomas will go in order to save himself.

Another great review!
5.0 out of 5 stars A thrill ride from beginning to end, July 12, 2013
By Erin Conroy (Warren, MI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Soul Hostage - Evil Takes A Backseat (Kindle Edition)
I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.

It starts off with a bank robbery and the two men, Thomas (who is our narrator and main character) and Joey, end up taking a hostage, the enigmatic Louis. Louis promises them a scheme to get big money. He also weaves a tale of betrayal and revenge, a story which is unbelievable, but Joey and Thomas follow him regardless.

Honestly, at first I wasn't sure if it was my cup of tea. But I was hooked after reading the first scene. Page after page of action and suspense and drama made this book hard to put down. There was some violence -- I personally wasn't bothered by it, but some people could be.

There are a few twists that will blow your mind. And I have to wonder if there's a sequel coming because it ended a bit abruptly.

There seemed to be a theme of good vs. evil which I thought was interesting and compelling.

All in all, an excellent read.

Dear Jeffrey,

I see that you reviewed the book Seduced by Innocence before. I have written a book that is similar to that. Would you be willing to let me provide you with a copy of the book in hopes that you would consider reviewing my book as well?

My name is Michael Brown and the book I want to send is titled The Consecration of Jacob Jordaens. You can find a link to it here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HW1NDP4

I can provide it to you as a digital file (.mobi, .epub, or PDF).

Of course, I understand that you are under zero obligation to review my book, and if you do review it, you can leave a good, or a bad review. I am simply looking for the opportunity to have you consider it.

Thank you. I look forward to your response.
